Obituary of Greg Clark

Please share a memory of Greg to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Greg Clark, 74, of Peoria, IL, crossed over on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his RV home on South Padre Island, with his wife, Jane, his brother-in-law, Bruce, and his dogs at this side. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Jane, one son, Mike Clark, from a previous marriage, his brother, Clarence Clark, and his sister, Janet (Clark) Arthur, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Christine (Weldon) Clark and his father Clarence Albert Clark. Greg graduated from Illinois State University (Normal, IL) with a bachelor’s degree. He worked in Data Processing for State Farm Insurance (Bloomington, IL) for 35 years before retiring. He called Peoria (IL) his home since 1988. Greg and Jane met in 1970 and were married in 1978. Greg deeply loved his dogs; he was an outstanding dog trainer and dog training instructor. He was proud to share the accomplishments of his Australian Shepherd, Buddy, which included a national #1 ranking in Rally Obedience. Greg was a long-standing member of the Peoria (IL) Obedience Training Center. He and Jane operated their Peoria (IL) dog training business for 10 years and fostered numerous dogs for Midwest Shiba Rescue. Greg developed and led a dog training program for the local prison. Greg was a member of the Illinois Valley Striders and competed in 5K and half-marathons; he enthusiastically ran with Jane in the Disney World Marathon. Greg and Jane volunteered for WTVP, the Peoria (IL) public television station, in various fundraising activities. After retirement, Greg and Jane embarked on RV travels to explore as many places as possible. In 2014, they took the dogs on the road in Arvy, their RV. Greg loved the journey even more than the destinations. In the simple act of setting out on the open road, Greg and Jane discovered the freedom to chart their own course, to embrace the unknown (including a few “road ends ahead” wrong turns and a few heart-stopping wildlife encounters), and to revel in the sheer joy of exploration. Traveling countless miles, sharing experiences, and forming friendships across the United States, the open roads ahead brought Greg to his favorite place: South Padre Island by the Gulf, a place to which he always returned for the beauty and solace. The family extends a special appreciation to the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice (Harlingen) for the comfort and support provided to Greg and his family. Greg chose a direct cremation and no services. To honor him, please share a memory with family or share a photo at www.thomaegarza.com .
